The Rubik’s cube is one of the most common math puzzles around. It’s one puzzle that can be solved by an endless number of ways. You might strive hard to solve the cube on your own or might even consult a few tutorials available on the internet to solve the same, but the point is you’ll always be at an advantage because you have learnt something new. In this article, we’ll highlight a handful of benefits of engaging with the Rubik’s cube. Let’s begin.
The puzzle is an open-ended puzzle
This is one of the best benefits of the Rubik’s Cube. Once you get yourself familiar with the cube, you won’t need an instruction manual to engage with the same. There are many possible solutions, and you can solve it with any one of your choices.
You might solve the cube by a process that you are aware of or you might even solve it by accident. There are all sorts of possibilities. You don’t have to abide by any rules or a manual. You can improvise, experiment and do anything that you wish (don’t damage the cube though).
The more you improvise, the more you learn. So you are basically teaching yourself with the cube and having fun at the same time. Brilliant, isn’t it?
Engagement with the cube is like being engaged in a workout; a workout of your brain. In this case, you are engaging your brain in the best possible way.
You’ll learn new things with the cube with each move. You’ll come across failures, and you’ll come across ways to get past it and reach your final solution. That’s a great brain workout indeed. Even if you know a specific way to solve the cube directly and have memorized it almost toe-to-toe, why don’t you take another route to see whether you succeed or not? It’s highly possible that you’ll be able to solve the cube by another way; one that is quicker and more effective. Remember that many discoveries had happened by accident.
A quote of J. R. R. Tolkien can explain this beautifully-
“Not All Who Wander Are Lost.”
Develops your problem-solving abilities
Engaging with Rubik’s cube can greatly improve your problem-solving abilities. The key to solving complex problems is to break it up into simple problems and solve the same in a step-by-step manner. The same is applicable in the case of a Rubik’s cube. Think of the cube as a big problem, a complex problem that can have many solutions. You’ll have to solve it in a step-by-step manner. Do not try to do everything at once or you’ll confuse everything and end up solving nothing. Take a slow and steady route and you’ll see that you have reached the solution.
This is an important life-lesson. Your problem-solving skills will be required in all fields of your life that also includes your career. So, there’s no doubt that it’s a significant benefit of the Rubik’s Cube.
Sense of gratification
Solving a Rubik’s club flawlessly brings with it a sense of gratification. Well, you have given your effort. You have spent your valuable time. It’s natural for you to feel a strong sense of gratification if you come to the perfect solution that’s also capable enough of earning you endless bragging rights.
[Well, you might ask another question though. “If I fail to solve the cube after all that effort, what’ll happen?” If you do have a question like that, our answer to that question is “Don’t ask.” Hope you get the point. ;-) ]
Hope we ignited a passion for the cube in you after all that discussion above. With that, we’ll bring this article to a close. Happy playing!
